IJMC Driving Observations

                      IJMC - Driving Observations

The latter of thest two little bits points out just how important context
can be. For instance, if you don't read this blurb you might wonder why
you're receiving so many of my emails this week. Yet the reality, the
context, is quite simple. I'll be out of town next week so I'm going to
try and send out enough mailings this week for you to read and enjoy
while I'm gone. Now isn't that nice? -dave

Amanda Fortenberry @ loyno.edu made an observation while driving:

"I saw this ad on a billboard somewhere between Baton Rouge and New Orleans:

		NFL Tryouts
	        No Experience Needed
	        1-800-***-****
	        Career opportunities available

I thought this was indicitive of the playing styles of both the New Orleans
Saints and the New York Jets. I found it funny in a tongue-in-cheek kind of
way, but this is indeed serious (funnily enough)."

This reminded me (the Oracle) of something I heard from a history teacher
years ago.

For those of you old enough to remember the Nixon presidential campaign,
Nixon's slogan was "Nixon's the One". The slogan, by itself, is innocent
enough.

If you've ever driven down an Interstate, you probably know how sometimes
billboards can be placed right next to each other. There'll be one
advertising a car, and ten feet down the road, there'll be one advertising
cigarettes or something.

Now, back during the Nixon campaign, there were two such billboards along a
highway in Ohio. The first said "One out of every four Americans has some
form of mental illness." The second? "Nixon's the one."
